About Sam
Sam Delaney is the founder and Director of Creative Start Arts in Health CIC.
With 20 years in abstinence-based recovery, he brings deep lived experience to his work, using creativity as both a personal and collective tool for healing and change.
Sam’s artistic practice spans portraiture, pop-art, contemporary and abstract painting, with influences ranging from native Australian art to modern street culture.
He primarily works in acrylic but often experiments with mixed media.
His work has supported national causes and reached high-profile clients, though his more recent focus lies in community murals that tell local stories and actively involve people in recovery in the process.
Since 2006, Sam has been creating safe, supportive spaces for people in recovery and their families, combining art, peer connection, and community empowerment.
Through Creative Start, he leads initiatives such as 'The Comeback' a lived experience recovery drop-in and art studio and The Great Escape, a community-led workspace and restoration project in the Grimsby Docks Heritage Zone.
His mission is simple: to demonstrate that recovery is not only possible but the foundation for creativity, resilience, and purpose.
